Viva Job Club Viva Job Club is a service available to all Viva College students. The role of the Job Club is to assist students in finding employment whilst in Australia.
Working in Australia Australian Student Visa holders are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week whilst their course is in session, and full-time whilst not in session. The Queensland adult minimum wage is $13.80 per hour, however, students often earn above this.
Tax File Number All students working in Australia require a tax file number (TFN). A TFN is a unique number issued by the Australian Tax office (ATO). The purpose of this number is for the ATO to have a record of taxes being paid. To obtain a TFN, visit www.ato.gov.au.
Applying for jobs There are many different mediums that can be used to apply for jobs in Australia. These include online mediums such as accessing organisations’ websites, and using job search engines, as well as the more traditional approaches of researching job ads in newspapers and distributing resumes in person.
Superannuation Superannuation (Super) is a compulsory employer contribution to a fund accessible when you retire or when you leave Australia indefinitely. If you are eligible for Super, your employer must pay a minimum of 9% of your earnings into your super account. If you are departing Australia, you are eligible to claim back this money from the Australian Tax Office.
